Ullapool (GB) - Ullapool (GB)

* Last place available for a man: contact info@windseeker.org before booking * Sailing to the Outer Hebrides and St. Kilda. Depending on the wind a plan will be made to get to St. Kilda – not necessarily an easy job! St. Kilda is an island group situated outside the protective circle of Outer Hebrides. The whole of the Atlantic ends on these islands, which makes them so unique and one of those places you just have to visit! St. Kilda was once inhabited by a population of 75 to 80 people. They maintained the island, kept small sheep and some cattle to live from, but mainly kept busy searching for Puffin eggs. In 1930 the population had shrunk to 36 people and so the complete community left the island as food was scarce and boat connection unreliable. Now you can only visit the islands by boat. On the islands there are still some of the Soay sheep left. But mainly they are now inhabited by Puffins, Northern Gannets, Leach Petrels and many more birds. Open to all ages, minimum age 15 years.

Ports

Ullapool, despite its small size is the largest settlement for many miles around and a major tourist destination of Scotland. The village was founded in 1788 as a herring port by the British Fisheries Society. A few Cordyline australis or New Zealand cabbage trees are grown in the town and are often mistaken for palms. The harbour is still the edge of the village, used as a fishing port, yachting haven, and ferry port. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings here.
