Atyla:
Scheveningen (NL) - Kiel (DE)

22 June - 27 June 2019

Visiting the sailing festivals. You will board the Atyla in Scheveningen (just outside of the Hague), and leave the harbour with other ships in a magnificent Parade of Sail. Then set the course east and make your way towards the famous Kiel Canal. After about 3 days of sailing you will reach the city of Kiel, where other vessels will be gathering for the Kiel Week sailing festival. You will have the chance to show off the Atyla to the visitors, and also take some free time to visit the festival before saying goodbye to your shipmates and going home full of new sailing memories. If you have the time, consider staying on board for a few more days and sailing on to Aalborg for the start of the Tall Ships Races – see the journey: Scheveningen-Kiel-Aalborg for details. Open to all Windseekers, minumum age 15 years.

Ports

Scheveningen is a popular sea resort in the Netherlands, a stone’s throw away from the seat of government in The Hague. It has a busy marina and a lively (somewhat kitschy) promenade – great for an afternoon of sightseeing. You’ll also find plenty to do nearby. Go for a walk in the dune landscape or take a tour around the Palace of Peace. Visit Madurodam to see the Netherlands rebuilt in miniature, check out the city centre of The Hague, or explore the beach and perhaps even go kitesurfing.

Kiel is a German port town on the Baltic coast, widely known for its yearly ‘Kiel week’ – the biggest yearly regatta in the world! Many thousands of boats and ships of all kinds and eras take part in the parade. Kiel Week is also a festival, Volksfest and fair as well as a maritime event. But Kiel offers more: a slew of museums (zoological, geological, historical, fine art, industrial, and military museums), a city centre with relaxed atmosphere, and the water and shores of the Kieler Fjord.
