Entering the UK from abroad: ETA

From the 2nd of April 2025, all people entering the UK from the EU/Schengen countries will need an ETA travel authorisation (along with a valid passport).

You will be able to apply starting on March 5th 2025. This will be done electronically on the website or app, and cost £ 10.

In order to apply, you will need to upload or take photos of the passport that you will be traveling with and your face. The application should be processed within 3 days, and your ETA will be valid for 2 years.

Entering the EU/Schengen from abroad: ETIAS

Soon, all people entering the EU/Schengen area from abroad, including the UK, will need either a visa or an ETIAS travel authorisation. At the moment the scheme is expected to go into effect in the early 2025, but the exact timing is not confirmed yet. You must check the information about ETIAS closer to the journey date (we recommend checking at least 2 months in advance).

If you’re from outside the EU and did not previously need a visa, you will need an ETIAS (if you need a visa to the EU/Schengen, then you do not need an ETIAS).

To find out if you will need ETIAS, click here.

In order to do apply, you will need a travel document which is valid for at least 3 months (at the end of the journey), and is no more than 10 years old.

The cost of application at the moment is € 7 for travellers aged 18-70. If you’re under 18 or over 70, the application is free.

You will be able to apply on the ETIAS website or mobile app, which will be open soon.

Filling out the application is quick and easy. Most applicants will receive their ETIAS travel authorisation within minutes, but in some cases the process may take up to 30 days. This is why you should apply well in advance of your journey to avoid stress.

ETIAS will be valid for 3 years, or until your travel document expires, whichever comes first.
