Alexander von Humboldt II:
Bilbao (ES) - Cadiz (ES)

17 September - 27 September 2015

Discover the Atlantic Ocean and experience Mediterranean culture on this Sail Training Journey from Bilbao to Cadiz. Board Alexander von Humboldt II and enjoy the freedom of sailing, together with an international group of guests and Windseekers. ALEX-2, as this square rigged Tall Ship is also called, offers you plenty of opportunity to hone your seamanship skills, but there’s also plenty of time to relax and make new friends. As a Windseeker, you naturally enroll in the watch system, so you can gaze up at the stars at night while you make sure the ship stays on course. In Bilbao and Cadiz you can sample Spanish culture and cuisine – the perfect start and end of this adventurous Journey! Open to Windseekers of all ages, minimum age 14 years.

Ports

Bilbao is a port in the northern tip of the Iberian peninsula, founded in the 14th century. Later on it became an important commercial hub for the Basque region. Today, Bilbao is a vigorous service city. Although Bilbao is not a major tourist destination, the iconic Bilbao Guggenheim museum is a must-see. Also take some time to walk around the city centre and visit the Exteberria Park. Around the city you can do many outdoor activities such as rock climbing, hiking and surfing.

The oldest city in Spain, with a wealth of historic landmarks. Water is never far away, as the old town is built on a narrow stretch of land jutting out into the Mediterranean Sea. Get lost in the Old town with its many narrow, winding streets and visit one of the many parks that dot the city. Its many cathedrals and plazas are also well worth a visit. Go to La Caleta beach, at La Viña, the old fisherman quarter. Go catch a Flamenco concert and feast your taste buds with the fresh sea foods.
