Wismar (DE) - Flensburg (DE)

07 June - 12 June 2015

A Sail Training Journey for Windseekers on the Alexander von Humboldt II! Join the Tall Ship and her crew for a sailing voyage from Wismar to Rönne, via Flensburg. After introductions with the crew and the other Windseekers you will start your Sail Training. Enroll in a watch, and learn the ropes under the guidance of the experienced crew. Sail Training is learning by doing, so expect to do a lot! Still, you will have time to yourself, and plenty of opportunity to get to know your shipmates better. Heading out for the island Bornholm you will have an amazing first sail. Stand outside on your first night watch and steer the ship. Experience your first sunrise on open water while closing in on the Danish island. From Bornholm the Journey will continue back to the German coast. Your Journey will end in Flensburg. Open to all ages, minimum age 14 years.

Ports

Wismar is a harbor on the Baltic Sea with a huge market square, lined with 14th century buildings. Wismar is a popular sailing destination, so expect to find loads of ‘yachties’ here. Go and discover the town on foot and enjoy the vibe of the old harbor. The Nicolaikirche and Kirche of St. Georgen both come highly recommended. Nearby you’ll find rural areas that can be fun to explore. And In the Baltic area a good beach is never far away, so go for a swim or find a place for windsurfing.

Flensburg is a German port town, close to the Danish border. It is located on the Flensburg Fjord, an inlet for the Baltic Sea. The old town is well worth a visit, and the hilly environment is ideal for a challenging walk. Visit some of the museums and conclude the day in one of the many local restaurants or taverns. Did you know that Flensburg is the homeport of Tall Ship Gorch Fock? Flensburg is also home to a large Danish community, so be prepared to flex your language muscle… Moin-moin!
