Bark Europa:
Cape Town (ZA) - Horta (PT)

28 April - 19 June 2015

Get ready for the ultimate Ocean Sailing Voyage. Cape town – Ascension Island – Horta, Azores. Cross the equator and sail thousands of miles on the open ocean. Visit the World’s remotest populated archipelago, and learn all there is to learn about life at sea on board the Bark Europa. You and your fellow shipmates will embark on a journey of discovery, making new friends and becoming an able sailor. Learn to set and trim the sails, navigation, steering, maintenance, and help keep the ship clean. Do odd jobs on deck and below, and spend time with your favorite book. At night you and your watch group have the deck to yourself. Braving the elements, leisure, discovery, and cameradery… this is what a journey is all about! Open to all ages, minimum age 15 years.

Ports

Cape Town, close to Cape of Good Hope, is a wonderful place where African and European cultures mix and match in interesting ways. The city offers lots of entertainment and fine cuisine, and there is much to see! Visit the Table Mountain, saunter along the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, check out Robben Island where Nelson Mandela used to be imprisoned, and of course no Windseeker's visit is complete without a trip to Cape Point. If you have time, a drive along the coast is highly recommended!

Horta is situated in the western part of the Archipelago of the Azores on the island of Faial. The marina is a primary stop for yachts crossing the Atlantic. Its walls and walkways are covered in paintings created by the crews of visiting ships. Peter's Cafe Sport, located across from the marina, houses the island's scrimshaw museum. A collection of artefacts carved from whale tooth and jawbone. This café is a point of reference for trans-Atlantic yachtsmen and sailors.
