Lorient is a seaport in Brittanny, France, originally settled in 3000 BC. From the 17th onwards, the town became a major naval base and trading centre. A lot of the old buildings were destroyed by Allied bombardments in World War II, but there is still plenty to see. Today Lorient is a major French tourist destination with beaches, a wonderful yachting harbor and of course the beautiful Britanny coast line. It is a well-known port of call for ships crossing the Gulf of Biscay.
