Do you want to sail on a Tall Ship? Then you’ve come to the right place! Join one of the Journeys and have an unforgettable adventure: no matter your age or nationality. No sailing experience needed.
Step on the bridge and try your hand at navigation, plotting the course on the sea charts. Challenge yourself to climb the masts at least once, and you will be rewarded by breathtaking views. Unfurl the sails and get back down to hoist them together with your crew mates. Once they’ve filled out with the wind, it’s time to take the helm! Do you know the feeling of steering a huge Tall Ship by yourself? Nothing is quite like it! When the manoeuvres are done you can breathe in the sea air and relax on deck. Sing some shanties, look for dolphins, or admire the sun setting into the waves.
Sounds good? Check out some of our adventures below and if you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact Janine at info@windseeker.org – she will be happy to advise you!
For young people from the EU countries, the Exchange@sea is subsidised by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. The journeys are accessible for everybody between the age of 15-25 from the specified EU countries. On board you will learn to sail a Tall Ship, share your culture and learn about the others' - facilitated by the mentors - and participate in the environmental activities such as taking and analysing wataer samples, coastal cleanups and lessons on how to keep the oceans clean.
Every year dozens of Tall Ships, as well as small ships and yachts gather for races and harbour events, which include Crew Parades, Crew Parties, competitions, concerts, fireworks and more. Every leg starts with Parade of Sail – a spectacular departure of all the Ships together, and ends with the last two days of the Journey spent in the destination port. The event is aimed at promoting Sail Training among young people (15-25), but some Ships have places available for all ages.
Sail Training is an experiential learning program where you learn by doing. Aside from practical aspects of seamanship, Sail Training teaches leadership, teamwork and responsibility. It builds confidence. Most of all, it’s a fun adventure you will remember for a long time!
